D-Day 80th Anniversary Commemorations Event – 6th June, Cassel Memorial Hall

Lilley Live and Lilley Parish Council are holding an event to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings on 6th June 1944 in Normandy.

Commemoration events will be held throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK Overseas Territories and at the site of the British Normandy Memorial, overlooking Gold Beach in Normandy, France, one of the five Beaches landed on 80 years ago, in commemoration of this important occasion, as well as using the event to enable communities and individuals to pay tribute to those that gave so much during this campaign to help unsure the freedom we all enjoy today, with the flames from the Beacons representing the ‘light of peace’ that emerged from the dreadful darkness of war all those years ago.

The aim of the Pageantmaster for UK Town and Parish Councils is for at least 80 Beacons per County, within England and Wales, to be lit at 9.15pm on 6th June 2024. Lilley will be one of the parishes contributing, and it would be great to see as many residents as possible on the recreation ground to watch the lighting of the Beacon.

Volunteers to help with the bar or raffle would be greatly appreciated; please contact Lilley Live on lilleylive@satisnet.co.uk if you can offer your help. Many thanks and we hope to see you on 6th June from 6pm.
