10 Planning Applications
10.1 Consultation on the proposal to close Hexton JMI School in August 2022
In light of the low number of children at the school and the school only being able to operate
two classes due to financial pressures, a number of options for the future of the school have
been explored. The options the county council have considered include:
– leaving the school as it is
– Hexton JMI School joining a multi-academy trust
– Hexton JMI School federating with other schools
– the closure of Hexton JMI School

Reserved Matters : Reserved Matters application for approval of access, appearance,
landscaping, layout and scale for outline application 21/00786/OP granted 11.08.2021 for
the erection of one single storey dwelling.

10.3 Consultation on the consolidation and rebuild of North Herts Education Support Centre (the ESC) at Briar Patch Lane, Letchworth Garden City, SG6 3LY from spring 2024. Use of accommodation at 29 Bancroft, Hitchin, SG5 1JW would then cease.
Proposal to consolidate all the ESC’s services into a new building in Letchworth. The ESC is a community pupil referral unit, for secondary age pupils at risk of exclusion or who have been excluded from mainstream schools in North Hertfordshire; it also provides an outreach service to secondary schools in the area.
